There’s a world of pretty shadows to enhance and brighten your eye colour. Don’t be afraid to experiment: A palette of shadows is the perfect way to play!

1. Brows

Do they really make a difference? Absolutely! You wouldn’t believe how much brows can flatter your face when using the right shape and products. Personally, I always complete my brows before anything else using Perfect Brow Crème Gel Pot, for a smudge-proof finish that lasts all day. After I’ve shaped my brows to perfection, I move on to my base.

2. Primer

Think of it as hairspray - it’s going to keep everything in place. Primer not only creates a smooth base for you to work on top of, but stops your eyeshadow from creasing throughout the day. Once you’ve primed your eyelids, apply a lightweight concealer over your lids and blend up to the underneath of your brow arch for extra definition.

3. Brushes

You could purchase the best eyeshadow the makeup industry has to offer, but if you’re not using the right brushes, you’re still going to be off to a slow start. Do your research on which brushes are required to create your desired look; it’s not as simple as one brush for everything.

4. Inner Corners

Always use a lighter colour in the inner corner of your eye, known as the V-shape. This will make the eyes appear brighter, and will eliminate any dark circles you may have. You can always use highlighter rather than an eyeshadow if you prefer.

5. Play up blue or green eyes

Light eyes pop when they’re paired with rich, warm tones like chocolate brown or bronze that provides a beautiful contrast. Cool-toned neutrals such as soft taupe, mauve, champagne, and dove grey also make a major impact without distracting from your natural eye colour.

Try: Avon True Colour 8-in-1 Eyeshadow Palette in Smoky Nights, or DIY your own Custom Eye Palette using the mark. Clique it Compact with individual Eyeshadow Singles (We love the earthy combo of Wild, Moody, and Cookie for light-eyed girls.)

6. Brighten brown or hazel eyes

Metallic shadows like copper, peach, and rose gold pick up on the golden flecks in your natural eye colour. To vamp up dark eyes even more (and make the whites of your eyes look whiter), swap out your black or brown eyeliner for a deep purple or navy. Use a small liner brush to smudge a colour like mark. Eyeshadow single in Audacious across the top lash line.

7. Grey Eyes

Grey eyes, the most mysterious of them all. The key to making grey eyes really stand out is to use a shade that is similar to the eye colour itself; let’s say your silvery/blue/grey tones. The Smoke & Mirrors palette is perfectly suited for grey eyes, and has built-in primer for long-lasting wear.

8. Perk up eyes with pink and peach

Earth-toned neutrals are awesome, but why not add some new, unexpected ones into the mix? A shimmering rose or peach is a sweet way to wear a nude. Just dust over your lids for an angelic, fresh spring look.

Try: mark. Eyeshadow Singles in Pixie or Tiger lily, or Avon True Colour 8-in-1 Eye shadow Palette in Nude Muse

9. A pop of bold colour

A vibrant purple or blue eyeshadow may seem a tad crazy or too fashion model-y to wear in real life, but you can pull it off—even for every day. The trick is to do just the barest hint of one single hue. For example, smudge a little flash of bright purple just along the lash line and keep the rest of your lid bare. Or apply a sheer sweep of colour (we love Lush, a subtle green shimmer) over your lids. Pair it with a coat of black mascara, and done!

Try: mark. Eyeshadow Singles in Lush, Suspicious, or Audacious

10. Make the most of your palette

There are always one or two colours (usually the safest of the bunch) that you end up using all the time, while some of the more intense—and potentially dazzling—go untouched. Here’s how to use the whole spectrum of shades: Super dark ones like metallic charcoal or indigo are great eyeliners. Apply with a tiny brush on the outer edge of the upper and lower lashes. And that one-off pastel lavender, gold or khaki shade? Try dusting a sheer wash of it over the lid, or smudge a little at the inner corners to open up your eyes in a playful (but not over-the-top) way.

Every eye colour is beautiful in its own unique way, and it’s up to you to decide which

eyeshadow you think complements it the best. Experimenting is part of the fun, so be as creative as you can! Get to know what works for you, and make those heads turn.
