So, What is Sulphate-Free Shampoo?

Hair mavens around the world are singing the praises of sulphate-free shampoo. But what is it? In our latest blog, we give you the low-down on this hair hero.

Over the past few years, the battle against sulphates in shampoos has been on the rise. But what are sulphates and should we be worried? In this blog, we explore the world of sulphate-free shampoo and its hair-loving benefits, giving you the info you need to make the final decision: to sulphate or not to sulphate.

WHAT ARE SULPHATES?

For a start, they’re nowhere near as scary and unknown as you might think. Sulphates are actually a form of detergent, and were first introduced to haircare during the 1930s. Essentially, they’re what gives your shampoo that fantastic lather and foam with every shower.

HOW DO THEY WORK?

Like most soaps, sulphates work to attract oils, grease and grime, giving your hair that squeaky clean feel. Sadly, this means they also wash away your hair’s natural oils, proteins and moisture, often leaving your hair dry, frizzy and damaged. They can also

cause irritation to you scalp, resulting in

conditions like dandruff.

SO, HOW DOES SULPHATE-FREE SHAMPOO WORK?

Free of any damaging chemicals, sulphate-free shampoo works to gently cleanse your hair, without drying it out or fading your beautiful colour. To apply, simply divide your hair into sections and massage the shampoo throughout. Remember, it won’t foam so just leave it for 3 minutes and watch it work its magic. If you decide to use our Sulphate-Free Cleansing Cream, you’ll also be able to ditch your conditioner, as its gentle formula keeps your natural oils intact. Hello, silky soft tresses!

BE HAIR SMART

Now, before you start throwing out all of your shampoos and conditioners, it’s good to note that sulphate-free shampoo doesn’t suit all hair types. Despite it working wonders on thick, curly or dyed hair, it can make thinner and greasy hair look lifeless and flat. We’d recommend trialling it before making any big hair commitments.

Looking to join the sulphate-free shampoo movement? If you think it might be the product you’ve been waiting for, then why not give our very own Sulphate-Free Cleansing Cream a try? Not only will it keep your hair looking vibrant and frizz-free, it’ll also help it to feel healthier too.
